Weekly Post: Sept. 25 – 29

GG PIC

Well fall is officially here. Sure doesn’t feel like it! Let’s hope the nice weather hangs around for another few months!

Congratulation to Leanne, Fiona and Isabelle for pulling off a very impressive book launch with the Governor General. It was a great morning and I know it is not one that the students will soon forget. Great job!!

On Tuesday morning I was hoping to have a brief meeting to discuss buying more flexible seating for the school. I would like to come up with a way that includes all classes and so that people can get a say in what they would like to reflect their classroom needs. Now ….. I am not talking about totally redoing classrooms. Maybe a few pieces that we can build on as we move more and more into the global competencies and flexible seating. If you are interested feel free to stop by the LC at 8:40AM for a few minutes.

Here is how the week is looking:

Monday:

Tuesday: ‘Flexible Seating’ for those interested @ 8:40 AM in LC, Fire Drill at 10:25AM

Wednesday: Kindergarten Meeting @ 8:40 AM in Rm. 127

Thursday:

Friday:

Weekly Post: Sept 18-22

Enzo and Massimo.JPG

Yea …… these two guys had a pretty good idea and they ran with it. They were pretty proud of themselves and they should be!

Educator Night and the BBQ went very well last week. Thanks for all of your hard work and time that you put into this. Parents are very happy and there was so much positive feedback from everyone. Our Trustee Jeremy Wittet was also here and I showed him around. I think we will be seeing more of him.

We have the Governor General coming on Monday. If you take a look at the flagpole on Monday morning it may look a little different. He will arrive at 10:20 and we will begin the the LC at 10:30 sharp with the grade 6 students. Stay tuned for more info and pics…. FYI there could be some media here. Not sure as it depends on the type of news day it is.

It is also Picture Day this week. Please see the schedule below and let your students know when their big day is.

Here is the link to the Samaritans on the Digital Road. If you can be working on these lessons with your students that would be great. The school board would like them all covered by Thanksgiving.

Here is how the week is looking:

Monday: Governor General visit 10:20AM

Tuesday: Picture Day

Wednesday: Picture Day, Girl’s Soccer

Thursday: School Cross Country Meet, Terry Fox Assembly (time TBD)

Friday: Grade 6 Retreat

Weekly Post: Sept. 11-15

Child Champion

It certainly was a busy week but we made it! Thank you to each and every one of you for all your time and effort you put into making this past week a great one for our students! Speaking of students ….. registrations are still trickling in. We appreciate everyone being so welcoming to these late members joining our ranks. I do have more agendas. Come and see me and I will set you up. You only have to make one small modification.

Did you know the Governor General is coming to St. George on Sept. 18th? This is pretty big news and we are quite excited. He is coming to release his new book to the Grade 6 students called Innovation Nation. Stay tuned for more details.

There will be no staff meeting this month and anything that has to be communicated I will send out to staff.

I would like a walkie talkie to go out with a teacher on duty every recess and with the kindergarten teachers when they go out. I have placed on in the Breakfast Program room plugged into a charger beside the microwave.  I would ask that the teacher in the primary yard take it out and return it at the end of the duty. This will help you if you need to contact the office or if we need to contact you.

Student Verification Forms: if you can please hold onto those as they come in and we will have you send them down at the appointed time.

We will be following the same setup for Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday as we have in the past two years. Here is the schedule:

  • 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Welcome Back BBQ – bring a blanket and some chairs and enjoy a meal with friends and family.
  • 6:00 – 6:20 p.m. Classroom Presentation #1
  • 6:25 – 6:45 p.m. Classroom Presentation #2

Here is how the week is looking:

Monday:

Tuesday:

Wednesday:

Thursday: 10AM Mass at St. George Church, School BBQ and Meet the Teacher

Friday: E.R.I.C. Speak Up Junior Event, Fire Drill

Welcome to the First Week!

Classroom Rules 2017

Hard to believe that summer is over and that we will be back at it Tuesday!

I hope that each and every one of you has fun and that you enjoy every minute of the new beginning of this school year. This is a really busy time and I know that you are all busy but i just wanted to share a couple of things. One is this blog post from George Couros. If you do not know who he is you should check him out. He has lots of great things to say and the has challenged me over the past few year in how I have thought about things. Here is his post on 10 Easy Ways to Create and Amazing Classroom Culture. Many of these things are not ground breaking and I know that you do these things each and every day. I just thought it was a good read and a little inspiring to start the school year.

Each new year brings excitement and energy and I am very excited to start this year off with each and every one of you. I can’t wait to welcome the students into the school Tuesday morning and get this year going!

Looking forward to learning with you in the 2017/18 school year!

See you all tomorrow.

Tim
